Agosto: mes del festival nacional del maíz en Danlí

Danlí es un pintoresco municipio del departamento de El Paraíso localizado 98 kilómetros al oriente de Tegucigalpa la capital de Honduras, y cuyas actividades cobran auge en el mes de Agosto de cada año, fecha en que sus ciudadanos celebran la internacional feria del maíz.

“La ciudad de las colinas” fue fundada –según datos históricos municipales- en 1662 y se le declaró oficialmente como municipio el 20 de septiembre de 1820. Actualmente cuenta con una población aproximada de 175,375 habitantes, su orígen etimológico deriva de la voz mexicana Talli o Xalli que significa Agua que corre por un lecho de arena.


Los valles, montañas y ríos la convierten en un lugarcito noble imposible de pasar desapercibido. “Aquí todavía conservamos nuestra idiosincrasia, identidad local, seguridad ciudadana, costumbres, respeto y solidaridad”, expresa la licenciada Luz Victoria Oliva, quien preside a la fecha la Corporación Municipal de Danlí.

De la imponente geografía sobresalen sus cerros San Cristóbal y la Piedra de Apagüiz. Entre sus joyas arquitectónicas: el templo de la Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción (1817), el Museo Municipal, los Arcos (1770), los lavanderos públicos (1890), entre otros.

La economía danlidense descansa en la industria del tabaco, agricultura y sus cultivos de frijol principalmente de maíz este último del cual se derivan las deliciosas rosquillas, elotes, atol, tortillas, tamales y otros derivados del preciado grano que se cultivan en hermosas extensiones de terreno para deleitar el paladar exigente de quienes gustan éstas comidas.

Para la comodidad de propios y extraños, brinda una decena de hoteles, restaurantes y ciber cafés de primera, establecimientos comerciales y de recreación, seis centros hospitalarios y clínicas privadas, farmacias, estéticas, tiendas de abarrotes y mercados, entre otros.

Al recorrer las principales calles y avenidas, encontrarás además del cálido trato de su gente, cientos de napoleones que se apuestan sobre los muros de sus antañonas construcciones, flores coloridas que contribuyen al ornato de la ciudad.

For the comfort of own and strange, it offers a ten of hotels, restaurants and ciber coffees of first, commercial and of recreation, six private hospitable centers and clinical establishments, pharmacies, aesthetic, grocer's and markets, among others. When crossing the main streets and avenues, you will find besides the warm treatment of its people, hundreds of napoleones that bet on the walls of his antañonas constructions, colorful flowers that contribute to ornato of the city.
